Brief History of Asia-Pacific Regonal Scout Conference
Prior to 1947, operation of the Scout Movement was centralized in London, England under the management of Boy Scouts International Bureau ( BISB ). Decentralization began in May 1946 in Bagota, Colombia where tha International American Conference was launched.
With the growing sense of Scout brotherhood in Asia, on March 01, 1956, after fact-finding mission from BISB in 1952 and 1955, Far East Traveling Commissioner was appointed for the coordination and development of Scouting in Far East Region ( now known as Asia-Pacific Region ).
With several other development-taking place, with initial ten founding member countries, the First Far East Regional Scout Conference, was organized at the Mansion House inn Baguio City, Philippines from April 25-28, 1958. By then there were 14 Member countries of the Far East Region.
Subsequently renaming the Far East Scout Conference to Asia-Pacific Scout Conference was adopted at the 7th Far East Conference at Lower Hutt, New Zealand in 1970, sactioned by the World Scout Committee in 1971.
As of now in all 22 ( including seven Far East ) Regional Conferences had been held. Today, the Asia-Pacific Region is composed of 24 full member National Scout Organization and two APR associatiate organizations.
Two aim of the regional Conference is to further the Scout movemen within Asia-Pacific Refion by promoting the sprit of world brotherhood, unity of purpose, cooperation ang mutual asisstance amongst Scout organization within the region, Hence amongst other.
- Facilate exchanges of idea and information between members.
- Formulate the general policy.
- Consider reports and recomendations from the World Scout Conference, World Scout Committee, Regional Scout Committee and from National Scout Organizations in the region.
- Conduct the formal business of the Reguonal Organization - elections, applications for membership, registration fees, amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws, etc.
